Visit to Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP)

Team SoP visited GSP on 21 October 2025 and met with Mr Adnan Alam, DG GSP and his team as part of our NSDI Domestic Outreach Program. The intent was to seek onboarding of GSP in our effort to establish Pak-NSDI. Both sides discussed the need for improved coordination on the publication of specialized geological maps based on SoP’s topographic sheets, in line with the existing mapping rules. Several potential areas for future collaboration also came under discussion including the joint development of integrated maps by combining geological and topographic data, integration/ sharing of CORS data, establishment of a formal data-sharing framework, organizing more value-added trainings jointly and undertaking joint R&D. Team GSP was very receptive of SoP’s proposal of setting up a Pakistan Geosciences Forum (PGF) and agreed to be an active member of the Forum. Both sides agreed to set up technical teams at priority in a bid to formalize areas and levels of cooperation through a Letter of Intent or MoU between both departments
