Visit to NITB
Team SoP, led by Surveyor General of Pakistan, visited National information Technology Board (NITB) on 6 Nov 2025 and met with the CEO, Mr Faisal Iqbal Ratyal. During the meeting, Team SoP briefed CEO NITB about SoP’s mandate, capabilities and ongoing initiatives toward establishing Pakistan’s NSDI. NITB was requested to join in this initiative as Technical Partner for making it a success. Team SoP also requested NITB to assist in modernizing and upgrading SoP’s ICT infrastructure which will greatly enhance the productivity of the Department. Surveyor General also apprised CEO NITB about SoP’s proposal of Islamabad 3D Digital Twin Project. MoIT&T is already working on Islamabad Smart City project and adding the geospatial layer to it along with important datasets from CDA will truly convert it into a very good 3D Digital Twin model. This digital replica of Islamabad will support urban planning, fair taxation, environmental monitoring and infrastructure management by CDA. To sustain it, SoP also proposed that NITB assist in the establishment of National Geospatial Academy under SoP to train professionals in advanced mapping, remote sensing and AI-assisted spatial analytics. Both sides agreed to pursue and coordinate respective efforts in these areas and also explore further collaboration opportunities
