Visit to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)

Technical team from SoP, led by the Surveyor General of Pakistan, visited PMD on 8 October 2025. During the meeting with Mr Mahr Sahibzad Khan, Director General of PMD, the SoP team elucidated upon the requirement of establishing Pakistan’s National Spatial Data Infrastructure (Pak-NSDI) and its benefits to the country. The role of PMD in this initiative is very important as its data will enrich the spatial information data sets with respect to meteorology and also increase their accuracy.

Possible collaboration avenues between both departments were also discussed which is expected to bring synergy in their efforts leading to better service delivery to the People of Pakistan. DG PMD was also briefed about the on-going New Geodetic Datum Project of SoP while PMD experts abrised about PMD’s GNSS stations network in the country.

Both sides agreed to continue discussions aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration through the signing of a MoU and undertaking joint initiatives to raise awareness among stakeholders regarding the implementation of Pak-NSDI.
