Participation in 8th ISPRS Geospatial conference in Iran

A 3 member SoP delegation attended the 8th ISPRS Geospatial Conference 2025 held from 15 to 17 December 2025 at the School of Surveying and Geospatial Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Tehran. The conference was jointly organized by the University of Tehran and the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS). The event covered a wide range of topics in geomatics engineering and served as a platform for interaction among scientists and professionals working in geodesy, remote sensing, GIS, photogrammetry and cartography.

SoP is a regular and contributing member of ISPRS and participation in society events provides significant technical benefits through exposure to emerging and innovative geospatial technologies and advanced applications. Such engagement contributes positively to organizational performance and capacity building of SoP.

The conference program comprised four main components: keynote lectures by eight speakers, verbal presentations of research papers, a poster competition based on research papers and four workshops conducted by experts. The main themes included state-of-the-art applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and GeoAI for urban planning, precision agriculture, sustainable urban management and Digital Twin technologies. Additional presentations focused on image processing and segmentation, land-cover classification, advanced applications of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) for terrain analysis and environmental monitoring, LiDAR-based 3D modeling and satellite positioning and navigation systems for geodetic and mapping applications. These focus areas are directly relevant to supporting the long-term objectives of SoP.

On the sidelines of the conference, the delegation met with the President of Iran’s National Geographical Organization (having mandate similar to that of SoP) and held productive discussions on bilateral technical cooperation and progress on the MoU exchanged during Surveyor General’s last visit to Iran. The delegation also met with Prof Mahmoud Reza Delavar, Chairman of the Conference and Member of the Educational Policy Making and Planning Committee of the University of Tehran to explore opportunities for study and training of departmental officers in surveying and geospatial technologies. Both sides agreed to incorporate these requirements into the MoU currently under process and Prof Delavar assured that SoP’s specific needs would be considered while designing academic modules at the University of Tehran
